the shack...

so i've heard conflicting reviews about the book the shack. my dad sent it to me to read a few weeks ago and i've been reading off and on the past few nights before bed. it's very...interesting...thought provoking...different. i'm really enjoying it!

i thought i'd share a few quotes that have stuck out to me. i don't have my mind totally wrapped around them yet...more time for that later...i probably should have been more together, but just had to get these out there...

"then let's see if we can find you in this mess..."
i am such a mess. the last few months have been a roller coaster of emotional garbage. whether from life situations or side effects from medication...i'm not sure...a lot of both, actually. i've been trying to find ME and where i fit into God's plan. we'll see how it goes.

"don't confuse adaptation with intention, or seduction with reality..."
again...don't have my mind wrapped around this yet...but...something...any thoughts???

"when you chose independence over relationship, you became a danger to one another. others became objects to be manipulated or managed for your own happiness..."

God is speaking here..."the real underlying flaw in your life, mackenzie, is that you don't think I am good. if you knew I was good and that everything--the means, the ends, and all the processes of individual lives--is all covered by my goodness, then while you might not always understand what I am doing, you would trust me. but you don't."
if that's not a reality check i'm not sure what is...more later...

"trust is the fruit of a relationship in which you know you are loved."
yes. good stuff.

ok. so comments and thoughts, geniuses commence...

I've heard it's theologically wrong. Never read it because I don't really read popular christian books.

Anyway I listened to a sermon by Mark Driscoll (Rockstar. like him so much if I had a choice between Windsor and Mars Hill, I'd probably go Mars Hill. Anyway, besides the point.) about it.

Here's the link: http://www.marshillchurch.org/media/doctrine/trinity-god-is

(I'm pretty sure it was that one.)

Kind of deep stuff.

Oh.....He talks about more towards the end I think. It makes your mind hurt.

Here's a you tube clip of just that part:

I read it several months ago and I'm still processing what I read. In fact, I think I'm going to re-read it. There was too much to grasp to get it all and fully understand it the first time around.

I like the fact that it makes you think.

Hey girl! We are reading this for my Summer Book Club in August. We also had heard that it is theologically jumbled, but our pastor has brought it up several times and we were very intrigued. We figured the best circumstance to read a book with messed up theology, is with a group of Christians that can talk about where we thought the book went wrong...and where we thought it went right. I can't wait to read it!

Thanks for the quotes!

i agree totally! i think so many times, christian shy away from things that are thought to be theologically jumbled...but i think we shouldn't in order to challenge ourselves and to realize what is correct or not.

My thoughts for what they are worth: I loved it. I thought it brought a different and fresh perspective on the person of God that someone in the main stream world has never been exposed to, and one sadly, alot of Christians aren't familiar with too. Sure it's not biblically accurate on a few issues, but it's FICTION. Hopefully no one is looking at it as a guide for life, but as a means of becoming closer to or understanding God more.

Enjoy it, it's a good read!

I think I'll have to add this to my list! I've been told by tons of people that it's a MUST read.
